Colca Canyon 2-Day Tour
Colca Canyon 2-Day Tour
Day 1: Puno - Chivay
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Puno between 6 am and 6:15 am and head towards Chivay, about 186 mi (300 km) away. Along the way, we'll cross the beautiful landscape of the Altiplano.
Our first stop will be in Lagunillas to observe native birds such as flamingos and Andean geese. Afterward, we'll make a brief stop to acclimatize to the altitude, enjoying a refreshing cup of muña or coca tea.
Mid-morning, we'll arrive at the Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve, where we can observe various mammals such as vicuñas, llamas, and alpacas. We'll continue our route to Patapampa, entering the heart of the Colca Canyon. On this journey, we'll pass by the crater of the extinct Chucura volcano and stop at the Mirador de los Volcanes, admiring the Western Cordillera at an altitude of 16108 ft (4,910 m).
Upon arrival in Chivay, we'll drop you off at your hotel, and you'll have free time for lunch on your own. In the afternoon, we recommend enjoying the town's famous thermal baths.
In the evening, if you wish, you can ask the guide for assistance in booking a place at an optional folkloric dinner show. The choice is yours!
Day 2: Chivay - Cruz del Cóndor - Chivay - Arequipa
After breakfast at the hotel, we'll head to the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint. Along the way, we'll admire agricultural terraces and visit the Andean village of Yanque to see its colonial church and witness the traditional Wititi dance.
Once at the viewpoint, you'll have approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes of free time to admire the landscape of one of the deepest canyons in the world and watch the majestic condors soaring overhead.
Afterward, we'll return to Chivay, stopping in the town of Maca to visit its church, see its handicrafts, and, if you'd like, try the traditional Colca Sour drink. In Chivay, you'll have an hour free for lunch on your own.
Finally, we'll begin the final leg of our journey to Arequipa, arriving between 5 pm and 5:30 pm and dropping you off near the Plaza de Armas.
