Tokyo Kintsugi Workshop
Kintsugi Workshop Details
The experience will begin at 禅 ZEN Craft Studio, a peaceful haven situated in the historic neighbourhood of Asakusa. There, your instructor will welcome you to kick off the session. Ready to unleash your creative side?
Before getting down to the practical part, you’ll learn about the meaning of kintsugi and how Japanese culture finds elegance in imperfection and transience. Once you’re familiar with this philosophy, we’ll hand out the traditional tools, and little by little we’ll work with the precious urushi lacquer.
With your own hands, you’ll join the pieces of the pottery together, following the line of the crack to cover it with genuine gold leaf. We’ll learn the art of beautifying scars!
The activity will conclude in the studio itself after 1.5 hours. You’ll leave with your fully restored plate, a personalised memento of your time in Japan.
