Lima Cathedral, Larco Museum & Casa de Aliaga Tour
Half-Day Tour of Lima
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Lima and head to Pueblo Libre. In this district of the capital, we'll first visit the Larco Museum, dedicated to pre-Columbian art.
After admiring its permanent collection, we'll make our way to Lima's historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On arrival, we'll first visit the Casa de Aliaga, one of the oldest homes in the Americas.
Finally, we'll head to the Plaza de Armas to visit the interior of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Lima, built in the 16th century.
From the cathedral, we'll take you back to your hotel, with arrival expected 4 hours after pickup.
What Will We Visit?
Over the course of this half-day tour, we'll visit the following places in this order:
Larco Herrera Museum
Located in the Pueblo Libre district, the Larco Herrera Museum houses one of the finest collections of pre-Columbian art in Latin America.
It occupies a beautifully restored viceregal mansion, built on top of a 7th-century pre-Columbian pyramid. During our visit, we'll see an outstanding and comprehensive collection of pre-Hispanic art, including a wealth of gold and silver objects, along with its well-known collection of erotic art.
Casa de Aliaga
Located on the central Jirón de la Unión street, in the heart of the old town, the Casa de Aliaga is considered one of the oldest family homes in the Americas. Built in 1535, shortly after the founding of Lima, by Jerónimo de Aliaga y Ramírez, a captain under Francisco Pizarro, it has been lived in by the same family for 17 generations.
During the visit, we'll take in an extensive collection of colonial furniture, along with a remarkable set of decorative artworks from the period.
Metropolitan Cathedral of Lima
Built in the 16th century, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Lima is a masterpiece of colonial architecture, combining Renaissance and Neoclassical styles.
Inside, we'll walk through its various naves and pause to appreciate the principal works of sacred art in its most notable chapels, including those of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, the Holy Family, and the Immaculate Conception.
We'll also take in other standout features such as the choir stalls, the high altar, and the chapter house.
